Who is 272 Records?
272 Records was founded in 2006 by a 20 year veteran in the music business. The president of our company has written, recorded, produced and engineered artists and bands of all size and stature. He has placed songs on hit television shows, independent movies and received radio airplay throughout Southern California. He is also the creator and founder of Club Fiend, a nightclub which operated for 4 years, booking over 400 bands in several of Hollywood’s iconic venues.
We as a label believe there are hundreds of thousands of bands and artists that are great and need to be heard! Releasing your music or distributing it only on iTunes is simply not enough - you will just get lost in a sea of millions that have already done so. The music has to look, sound and be represented by professionals. This goes along way into getting the music into the hands of people that can actually do something with it. That is what we do best.
Is this an exclusive deal?
No, this is a non-exclusive deal. We own NO rights to your music in any way, except to release it only on the compilation of your choice.
How long have you been in business?
272 Records have been releasing records since 2006.
How many albums have you released?
We have proudly released 132 compilations to date. Please feel free to check out all of them on Amazon.com and Tower.com.
How many bands have you worked with?
We have proudly worked with and represented over 2,400 bands and artists in getting their music out to radio and on the streets.
Are your albums available to purchase anywhere?
Yes, all of our titles are available at Amazon.com, Tower.com and Amoeba Music in Hollywood. Since our compilations are geared mainly towards promotional releases, please support the bands that appear on the records by going to their music websites and purchasing the record directly from them.
Do you make any money from the sales of the CD?
No, we do not promote the sale of the CD. Every band included on the compilations has the option to sell the CD through their website or MySpace page. (This is not a requirement - it is totally up to the band or artist if they decide to sell the CD)
What genres of music do you release?
We have released compilations from the genres of Acoustic/Folk, Indie/Alternative Rock, Metal, Punk, Glam, Pop Punk, Goth, Blues, Classic Rock & Powerpop.
Have any bands had any success?
Yes, bands that have appeared on our compilations have secured independent record deals here in the USA, have appeared on the billboard charts, have secured shows and played live in Los Angeles through booking contacts we have provided. Bands have been played 1000's of times on Internet radio stations such as Live365.com and Jango Radio as well college radio stations here in California.
Several bands have reached #1 on the SoundClick charts in their respective genres. Some Bands have leveraged being involved with our label into television spots, interviews in their local paper, grants to make records in their country and have even gone so far as to create tours with other bands that they have appeared on the same record with. We believe you get out of this, what you put into it.
Can you book us a show in Los Angeles?
Although we would love to be able to put shows together, we just do not have the time to do so. Our time is 100% committed to organizing and releasing the compilations. We are always more than happy and willing to pass our booking agent contacts on to any band that appears on our record.
Will our info be included in the packaging?
Yes, we provide space for the band/artist name, song title, songwriter, producer, one website of choice and a photo as well.
Can I send you a CD?
Yes - please feel free to send us a CD of your demo, single or record to our headquarters at:
272 Records
4646 Natick Ave. Suite 404
Sherman Oaks, CA 91403
We will do our best to listen to everything that is sent to us.
I have heard of or received offers like this before, how do I know if you are legitimate?
We wouldn’t be in business for 5 years, have released over 130 albums and worked with over 2,400 bands and artists if we were up to something funny or not very good at what we do. There are always going to be negative people that speak out on matters without being informed. We provide a service of getting your music onto CD and sent out to radio. We also make sure that copies of the record are handed out to music fans all across Los Angeles. We work together as a unit (record company and bands/artists) to make and distribute these promotional CD's.
How many bands appear on each record?
Usually between 15 and 20 bands appear on each compilation.
What does the final product look like?
Each album's CD and artwork is printed in full color and all CD's are professionally designed, packaged and sealed from our manufacturer enclosed in the industry standard jewel case.
Do you release the albums digitally?
No, we believe that is very simple process and can be done very easily by the artist themselves. We are always willing to assist any band or artist that has appeared on our compilations by directing them to the right people to get their music distributed digitally.
Can we contact any of the 2,400 bands/artists that you worked with in the past?
Yes, if you feel compelled, please feel free to look at our discography page. Every album we have released is listed their and has a link to every bands website that appear on that record.
I am not from the U.S. - can I still be a part of the compilation?
Yes, you do not need to be a local band or artist. We work with thousands of bands from all over the world and we can guide you through the process one step at a time and make it as simple and seamless as possible.
Is there a submission fee?
No, there are no submission fees to be included on the record.
We would never take money from any band or artist and not have them appear on the record. To us, that is wrong! If we contacted you or vice versa and we like your music you will be guaranteed a place on the record.
Is there a fee to be included on the record?
Yes, there is nominal fee. As much as we would love to release every bands music for free, it's just not possible. Promotion isn't free - neither is designing, packaging, mastering, shipping or distribution. Since we do not promote the sale of the record (we allow you the option to do that and keep a large share of the profits) we ask everyone involved to chip in to make the release and promotion happen! No one ever said that getting your music out there to be heard would be easy, but we make it as effortless as possible.
Can I visit you if I or my band is in town?
Yes - please contact us first so can assure someone will be in to assist you.
I am interested in being featured on one of your compilations, what do I do?
Please send an email to info@272records.com and let us know the style of music you play, what album you are interested in being apart of and where we can hear your song samples. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
